How to Create Pearl Clusters
Dreaming of Constellations of Pearls
The installation we photographed for the launch of our Pearl Amber sconce in our Los Angeles studio generated a lot of interest online and in person.
With that in mind, on this page you'll find a short How To for incorporating a Pearl Cluster into your space. The clusters work especially well using our Pearl Seamless sconce in millwork or mud-in.

Step 1: Choose Your Pearl
We recommend using Pearl Seamless globes. These are fixtures with no visible canopy and can be built into plaster work, millwork, tile, or mirror.

Please be aware that, unlike standard fixtures, Pearl Seamless requires a specialized installation process. To get to know Pearl Seamless, you can read more about that installation process here and watch a How To video here.
You can also use Pearl Sconces with a canopy for a slightly different look. For more on clusters, read on!
Step 2: Count Your Pearls
Start by measuring your desired installation area. You want to allow for a minimum clearance of 3-4” from the edges of your space to the center of each junction box.
We recommend mounting fixtures no lower than 36” from the floor.
As a general guideline, we recommend one Pearl per 1–4 square feet, though this is dependant on your overall illumination needs. Each Pearl Sconce is fitted with a 450 lumen bulb, delivering approximately 400 lumens in White and 260 lumens in Amber.
Step 3: Design Your Cluster
Based on your space and selected Pearl globe size, begin exploring the overall composition.
How do you want the constellation of Pearls to feel within the space? Organic and atmospheric, structured and architectural, or perhaps quiet and textural?

Whichever direction you go, we recommend laying out the constellation digitally first. Make quick sketches using your program of choice before moving to physical layout.
To get to your final layout, you'll likely want to use a mix of digital and physical tests, moving back and forth between the two.
Step 4: Prepare to Install Your Cluster
Once you have your layout resolved, create an elevation showing desired j-box locations and share that with your electrician or contractor. We recommend talking with your team about whether you want to create a dedicated circuit for your Pearl Cluster.
Make sure to share our Seamless installation instructions with your electrician or contractor. These fixtures require a specialized installation process.
Finally, be sure to use on of our recommended Dimmer Switches.
